Last weekend I did Beach Body's 3-Day Refresh.
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
I'm going to be 100% honest in this post about it.
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
I'm going to be 100% honest in this post about it.
First off: What is the 3-Day Refresh? Its a 3 day process designed to do a quick detox to reboot your system a bit.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all a form of Shakeology, with some fruits and vegetables, some fiber sweeps thrown in.
A quick rundown of what I went through:
Breakfast: Chocolate Vegan Shakeology (mixed with water and ice only) and half a banana.
Mid morning: Fiber sweep (mixed with water & ice)
Lunch: Vanilla Refresh Shakeology (with some strawberries, water, and ice), 5 baby carrots with 1 1/2 tsp of almond butter.
Afternoon snack: 5 baby carrots with another 1 1/2 tsp of almond butter.
Dinner: Vanilla Refresh (water & ice only), and 1 1/2 cups of steamed cauliflower, broccoli, and carrots (tossed with 1/2 tsp of coconut oil and light seasoning).
Those were my days. No coffee, no dairy, no meats, no breads/pastas/rice/treats/etc.
By the day of end one- it was NOT pretty. I was tired, cranky, had a headache, and was completely thrown off kilter.
Day 2 afternoon- Still wasn't pretty. I was tired and hungry. My brain wanted everything in sight. I had just done the grocery shopping the day before. That was a curse and a blessing really. I was able to make sure I had wanted I needed, but now my kitchen was fully stocked.
I want to point out something I just said about day two. My brain wanted everything in sight.
It was mid-afternoon on Day 2 that I realized it was my brain that was craving these things. It wasn't even anything specific. I rambled off anything I could think of that I 'wanted'. It was a mind trick. My brain thought I wanted it. My body wasn't craving it.
When I realized this things became clearer. I felt more focused. No headaches, I wasn't hungry, feeling deprived, or craving anything. I went to bed feel lighter. Like I had been lifted out of a fog.
Day 3 was pretty easy. Although I still talked to my husband about eating everything under the sun as soon as the time was 12:01am. But I didn't.
I went to be at 11pm and passed right out. I woke up and wasn't feeling deprived or starving. I had my water and my shakeology for breakfast, and continued to eat healthy meals throughout the day.
Yes, I ate bigger potions than when on the 3-Day Refresh- but I kept up my healthy eating and healthy portion sizes.
I feel more energized and focus, especially when it comes to workouts. I feel more driven and focused. Which is something I have been struggling with. I'm feeling GOOD! Oh! I'm also another 4 pounds down!
Does it end here? For me, no. During this break from meats & starches like breads & pastas- I've realized my stomach and gut functioned a whole lot better.
I had a piece of chicken last night for dinner, along with some steamed vegetables. Soon after finishing my stomach began to cramp. Something I ate didn't agree with me. The only thing that had changed was eating the chicken.
So this morning I decided to continue to keep away from meat, most dairy, and most heavy starches.
Currently, I'm in a group with more than 60 other people who are doing a 30 Day Shred from a different range of hybrid programs. My hybrid is Les Mills Combat & 21 Day Fix Extreme. I've decided to take this time and 'experiment'. I'm going to continue to not eat meat. And am going to limit the bread. Most dairy as well. I don't drink milk- if anything just coconut milk. And very limited on cheese/dairy. I will still eat eggs though for now. Just a test run to see how my body handles this. During this time I also want to be doing more reading the vegan lifestyle. I'm not sure that is something I could commit to, but I'm curious about it.
Right now this commitment is just for the next 30-well, 29 days now. One day at a time. One step at a time.
